First Nation Advisory Services

Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council provides Advisory Services to its member First Nations in areas of Tribal Governance, Economic Development, Community Planning, Technical Services and Band Finances. These areas outlined and mandated by INAC.

While DOTC administers and oversees the provision of services by each of assigned advisor to the member First Nation, it is the member First Nations itself that identifies the individual advisor and; within the broad areas listed previously determine direction and priorities to be undertaken and completed by the Advisor. The Advisor is placed under an employment contract from DOTC to provide Advisory Services directly to the member First Nations.

DOTC carries out its obligations through the DOTC Advisory Coordinator who is responsible for overseeing and assisting the Community Advisor in the development of a work plan and carrying out the identified activities.

The DOTC Advisory Coordinator also ensures that the reporting requirements from all Community Advisors are fulfilled for presentation of the annual report for submission to INAC.

As presently structured this provides to the member First Nations ownership of the process and also it allows the member First Nation to determine priories based on its needs.
