DOTC Member First Nations

The Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council consists of Nine Member  First Nations.

Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation is located approximately 48 kilometres north of Virden and, it is centered in the heart of the oil and gas and agriculture sector of Manitoba. As of June 2009, the total registered population is 744 persons of which on-reserve population is 444 persons. The on-reserve population consists of 224 males and 220 are females. The community language is Dakota.

Canupawakpa Dakota Nation - Band 289

Canupawakpa Dakota Nation is proximate to Brandon and it is about 30 kilometres from Pipestone. Its territory covers agricultural land and, it is located near to the oil and gas activity that is centered in the Virden area. As of May 2009, the registered population of Canupawakpa Dakota Nation was 611 persons. Of this total, 287 persons live on the reserve of these 142 persons are male and 145. The community language is Dakota.

Dakota Plains Wahpeton First Nation is about 28 kilometres south-west from Portage la Prairie. Its territory provides agricultural land entrepreneurial opportunities. For the members, close proximity to Portage and surrounding areas is also a source of employment and opportunities. As of May 2009, the registered population of Dakota Plains Wahpeton First Nation was 247 persons out of which 157 persons live on the reserve. According to Statistics Canada, of the ones on the reserve 80 persons are male and 77 are female. The community language is Dakota.

Long Plain First Nation is located 25 kilometres southwest of Portage La Prairie. Long Plain also has land adjacent to Trans Canada Highway # 1- just outside of Portage La Prairie. On this property houses Long Plain Arrowhead Development Corporation, Offices of DOTC and other organizations. As of May 2009, the total registered population of Long Plain First Nation was 3705 persons, of which 2026 resided on the reserve and 1679 persons lived elsewhere. The community language is Ojibway.

Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation is located 20 kilometres from the United States border, and 104 kilometres south of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The First Nation consists of two parts- Roseau River 2A, the main reserve, is at the junction of the Red and Roseau Rivers, with another portion, Roseau River 2A (Roseau Rapids), located on the escarpment 20 miles east of the main reserve. As of May 2009, the total registered population of Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation was 2210 of which those residing on the reserve total 1127 persons. The on-reserve population consists of 586 males and 541 females. The community language is Ojibway.

Sandy Bay First Nation is about 93 kilometres northwest of Portage la Prairie and, 178 kilometres from the City of Winnipeg. Located on the shores of the Lake Manitoba, its territory covers prime agricultural land. As of May 2009, the total registered population is 5,575 persons, of which 3,498 reside on the reserve itself. The on-reserve consists of 1860 males and 1,638 female persons. The community language is Ojibway.

Sioux Valley Dakota Nation is located is located 53 kilometres west of city of Brandon and only 10 kilometers north of Trans Canada Highway #1. Within the First Nation, the administrative and business components are located in close proximity to each other. The location provides for easy access and accommodation of visitor traffic. As of May 2009, the total registered population is 2289 persons of which those residing on the reserve total 1373 persons. The on-reserve population consists of 711 males and 662 are female persons. The community language is Dakota.

Swan Lake First Nation is located in the South Central Manitoba and, it is 155 kilometres southeast of Brandon and 161 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg, Manitoba. As of May 2009, the total registered population is 1220 persons of which those residing on the reserve total 701 persons. The on-reserve population consists of 320 males and 381 female persons. The community language is Ojibway.

Waywayseecappo First Nation is proximate to the town of Russell and the Rural Municipality of Rossburn and, it is approximately 344 kilometres northwest of the City of Winnipeg. Waywayseecappo First Nation is conveniently located on Highway 45 just 20 miles east of Russell and just a few miles from the south-western corner of Riding Mountain National Park. As of June 2009, the total population is 2403 persons of which 1504 persons reside on the reserve. Of the on-reserve population, 753 are males and 751 females. The community language is Ojibway.
