Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council Housing Authority Inc.

The DOTCHAI was officially incorporated in the Province of Manitoba on February 28, 1981 as a non-profit housing authority to serve the housing needs of the First Nation population. Since it's incorporation, DOTCHAI now has the distinct recognition of being the largest urban aboriginal owned residential property manager.

The success of DOTCHAI can be attributed to the close working relationship it has developed with the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation and the Manitoba Housing Renewal Corporation. Both CMHC and MHRC play critical roles in areas of government subsidy, portfolio management and technical assistance to ensure DOTCHAI provides the best possible service to the people it serves.

The management of the company consists of eight board of directors appointed by the chief and council appointed from each of the DOTC Member First Nations. The term of office is determined by way of a band council resolution. There is a provision in the by-laws to appoint an alternate representative in the absence of its original appointee.

The Council of Chiefs also has a representative who acts as a liaison between the Chiefs and the Board of Directors. This representative does not have voting privileges although, the DOTC Constitution allows the Council of Chiefs to veto a decision of the Board.

The administration consists of 13 staff members who are regular employees of the DOTCHAI. All employees are subject to the DOTC Administrative Policy Manual.
